Americans are choosing to be alone
Time spent alone can be enlightening, peaceful and a wonderful way to reflect and re-energize our body and soul. We can often be our own best friends as we cater to our individual needs for self-care. Time spent away from others can offer an ideal opportunity to better understand ourselves, our motivations and how our individual experiences have shaped our lives and who we are today.
Taking time away from the stress of our personal and professional lives can help us grow as individuals. We become conscious of who we are, the behaviors that impact our lives, and how we can improve ourselves through this magical journey. Given the increase in time spent alone over the last few years due to the Covid pandemic, we should all be on our way to a new and improved version of ourselves.
The reality for some of us is this journey of self-reflection may take a wrong turn simply because of the amount of time we are spending alone. This can be particularly true if addictive behavior or substance abuse is leading us down a negative path of isolation. When time spent alone hurts our ability to truly see our inner selves and how to improve and causes us to withdraw from others, that may be the signal to seek help from others.
